#1 Kunchikal Falls

Kunchikal Falls is the highest waterfall in India. It’s total height of fall is 455 meters (1493 ft.). Kunchikal Falls is located in the Nidagodu region of Karnataka. It is a very popular tourist site . It is also known by the name “Kunchikal Abbe”. The mighty Varahi river feeds this waterfall. The best time to visit Kunchikal is between July- September.

#2 Barehipani Falls

Barehipani Falls is a two tiered waterfall situated deep within the Simlipal National Park in the district of Orissa. It is one of the tallest waterfalls in India and measure just a meter shy of 400. The area surrounding this waterfall is gorgeous. It is surrounded by lush green forests. The area is also known to house some wild animals too. It’s a bonus for the tourists therefore.

#3 Jog Falls

South India is blessed with some of the highest and most beautiful waterfalls in India. Jog Falls is located in the Shimoga district of Karnataka. During the monsoons when it’s in full vigour, about 3.4 million tonnes of water fall down it’s cliff every minute or so. Lush green forests set a backdrop to this waterfall. The water of four cascades known as Raja, Rani, Rocket and Rover combine together to form this majestic beauty. Watkins platform is the location best suited to enjoy the full thrill of this waterfall. The thunderous sound of the water as it falls from about 253 meters and the stunning view, makes the experience surrealistic.

Mussoorie is nature’s own paradise. India is proud to claim it as it’s very own. Kempty Falls is located in Mussoorie and is quite the tourist hotspot. The Kempty falls divides itself into five falls and it is located at an elevation of about 1371 meters above sea level. This waterfall is surrounded by huge cliffs and greenery. It’s the best place to unwind yourself and just relax. The soothing ambience along with the feeling that one is sitting in nature’s lap, is more relaxing than anything else.

#5 Dudhsagar Falls

The Mandovi river in Goa is the point of origin of the Dudhsagar Falls. With an altitude of 1017 feet, Dudhsagar Falls is one of the largest waterfalls in India. The place is a beauty and if one is to visit during the monsoons,they are in for a visual treat. The water falling from such great heights creates clouds of foam which suitably matches with it’s name (sea of milk). The lush flora and fauna in the surrounding area, makes it an ideal spot for those looking for a romantic getaway or a honeymoon spot. One can visit Dudhsagar Falls either from November to February or during the Rainy season (June- September).

#6 Athirapally Waterfalls

The Athirapply Waterfalls is located in Kerala and is the largest waterfall that Kerala has to offer. It is located in Kerala’s Thrissur district and is created by the river Chalakudy. Kerala is one of the most beautiful state in India. From it’s back water rivers,to it’s forested regions and sandy beaches,it seems Kerala has everything. The Athirapally Waterfalls is the crown Jewel among them. Elephant Falls is a very popular tourist spot and is one of the most popular falls in the North-East of India. It is located on the outskirts of Shillong and can truly be deemed as one of the most beautiful waterfalls in India. Though it cannot match in height with the other falls, it makes up for it by its sheer dramatic beauty. The waterfall cascades down in three sections and is in full glory during the monsoons. A lot of people also go between November to February as Shillong is a high rainfall zone. All the year around it experiences episodic rainfalls. It is therefore not mandatory to visit during the monsoons to see the falls in it’s vigor.

Cherrapunji, the state with the highest rainfall rate, is the home of the Nohkalikai Falls. Now, Nohkalikai is a photographer’s dream spot. There is a viewing platform located at a safe distance  from where one can enjoy the glorious beauty of the falls. The falls measure at 335 meter and roars as its falls down from the cliffs. Another one of Karnataka’s treasure. Hebbe Falls is located in the Chikmagalur district of Karnataka. This massive waterfalls is located amidst dense forests and coffee plantations. It is believed that one of the parallel falls has some healing qualities. Truth or not, Hebbe Falls with it’s beauteous landscapes and natural lushness heals the soul. It is only about 8 kilometer’s away from from the popular hill town of Kemmangundi and likewise sees quite a bit of tourist activity.

Kynrem Falls is located at a distance of only 16kms from Cherrapunji in the east Khasi Hills. It is a three step waterfall cascading down the hills. Being located in the wettest region of India, the falls is always in it’s prime. The surrounding hills with its rich green trees and valleys is a sight to behold. If you want to enjoy the full view of this falls, make your way down to the bridge with water flowing below it and behold Kynrem Falls in all it’s dramatic glory.

#11 Shivanasamudra Falls

Shivanasamudra Falls is one of the most vigorous and powerful waterfalls in India. It is located on the banks of the Kaveri river in the state of Karnataka. It has height of 98 meters but more than makes up for it’s height by it’s sheer ferocity. The Shivanasamudra  divides the river Kaveri  into two parts,thereby creating two more majestic waterfalls known as Gaganchukki and Barachukki waterfalls.
